Understanding Trucking Logistics
Trucking and Logistics industry is the most prevalent. With the onset of the Industrial revolution, the number of manufacturing companies and business people grew dramatically in the early nineteenth century. The development of rail road helped speed up the movement of raw materials. The trucking services provided by different trucking companies in the early twentieth century soon made this mode of transportation the most popular one.
The growth of trucking services had a great impact on the freight industry. Today there are many types of trucking services in the country that facilitate the transportation of cargo from one place to another. They can be classified in to three major types based on their service options.
Logistics or the management of movement of goods and cargo from one point to another is among the prime functions of these trucking services. Logistics involves transport of goods from point A to point B. Private fleets on the other hand use these transportation services to move their cargoes between ports for a short period of time.
Heavy transport trucking services are also another type of trucking services. Heavy trucking services include the movement of cargoes between the ports to ensure quick delivery of freight. It is the duty of these trucking services to deliver cargoes from one port to the other by using either refrigerated or standard trucks. Heavy trucking services cater to the needs of companies engaged in the transportation of perishable goods. It also involves the transportation of heavy cargoes and dangerous goods.
The third type of trucking services is the customer service trucking services. It is in fact an intermediary between the customer and the shipper. It ensures timely arrival at the final delivery destination of the cargo. The customer service involved here is far more important than that of the transport services as it ensures customer satisfaction by efficiently fulfilling the requirements of the customer.
Trucking logistics is in fact the science of delivering cargo in the most efficient and timely manner. This is the only way to meet the demands of the customers and beat competition in the market. The techniques employed for delivery include the use of full truckload, half truckload and the net weight. The use of full truckload (LTF) is considered to be the optimum solution for long distance travel. Half truckload and the net weight are used for short distance travel and the transportation of light cargoes.
